Learning and Applying Mathematics using Computing


Mathematics, aka Math (North America), Maths (UK and elsewhere): A discipline made up of lots of sub-branches, including

  • Geometry: the branch concerned with space, shape and distance, including
    • Trigonometry: the branch concerned particularly with triangles, their sides and angles.
  • Calculus: the branch concerned with differentiation and integration.
  • Mechanics: technically part of Physics, but the application of Maths to physical entities, motion and forces (speed, acceleration, etc).
  • Probability: the branch concerned with chance.
  • Statistics: the branch concerned with analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Arithmetic: the small branch concerned with the basic operations on numbers.
  • Algebra: the branch concerned with operations (potentially on variables) and relations.
